The central picture shown above is of Bunnykins Day Nursery nr Wrexham. The design brief was to replace the current grassed area with a bright colourful area that children from 3 months to 4 years could enjoy. Work began when Bunnykins had builders lift the turf and set in place battens around the perimeter of the area, this was then filled with hardcore and compacted. The area was now ready for Evergreens to install the surface. The surface and shock-pad were all fitted in one day by three of our fitters - the surface was in two parts one 15m long by 8m wide and the second 13m long by 2m wide. These were joined on site to make the surface one piece which was then stretched over the battens and fixed.

The installation at the Willow Children's Centre, Islington was completed over two stages, stage one was the only intended area to be covered in artificial grass. The area at the centre was in the centre of the garden with a tree stump feature, but due to high use and poor weather it had become very slippy and muddy, this caused mud to be carried into the newly refurbished school and parents having to send children with two changes of clothes.
The installation was completed in two days as the work was carried out during term time, this included removing over two tonnes of turf and soil and bring in two tonnes of stone to compact in the area to provide a solid firm base to install over.
Once complete Islington Council and the centres managers decided that a further three areas should also be replaced with LazyLawn to create more artificial grass play areas to remove the maintenance involved with a natural lawn and provide a fun, clean and natural looking area for children to play, no matter what the weather.
For this project at Ketton Primary School we were asked to replace the existing turf that was becoming hard and costly to maintain. The project specified our Grass Park Senior for the entire play area. During the installation we decided to include some detail around the tree using our Lazy Grass (40mm), this combined with the Grass Park Senior (20mm) with a lower pile height gave a unique look and change of texture that is perfect for children's interest.
The installation was completed over a weekend to reduce disruption to the children's play time and minimise dust in the nearby classrooms during the groundworks stage of installation. This play area also included our 25/7 dimpled rubber shock pad to provide a safe and soft surface for the type of equipment used and activities undertaken at the school.
Our design teams are able to visit your site to discuss which surface and shock pad combination suits your project and budget. We can also design any custom-made play areas including roads that can be used for play or teaching road safety.
Step by Step Installation Process:
1. Turf removed
2. Stone base installed
3. Our double layer timber edging system
4. 25/7mm rubber shock pad installed

If our range of Play-Scene playground surfaces are not what you're looking for, then our range of artificial grass surfaces are ideally suited to the high demands of any play area. Our products that are suitable are Grass Park Senior, Lazy Grass and Lazy Supreme all are available in 2m and 4m widths and usually delivered next-day. Evergreens are also able to install throughout europe using our trained and experienced fitters this ensures a smooth trouble free installation and year round support from our maintenance teams.
So where do you go from now ? Well a good start is a few pictures of the area and a brief description of what you require and any problems you have with the area, for example if the area suffers from standing water this would have to be resolved by installing soakaways before the installation starts, this is cheap and simple to install and would reduce delays during installation if known before the fitters arrive. Once we receive your pictures will can provide you with a quotation and discuss any queries you have and arrange a site visit if required to confirm sizes and ground conditions.
For many installations critical fall heights are a major concern if swings or climbing equipment is used, usually on nursery play area this is not required as most play equipment used are small movable toys so reducing the need to incorporate rubber shock pads to meet critical fall heights although we do actively advise the use of at least a 10mm rubber shock pad especially when installing over tarmac or concrete playgrounds. For installation on soil we use our "Double Layer Edge" system which allows the hardcore base to finish at the first timber edge allowing the rubber shock pad to be fixed to the lower timber edge with the upper edge being used to fix and hide the edge of the rubber and artificial grass surface. (pictures of timber edge). This system allows for a good clean finished edge for surrounding surfaces to finish against without folding the artificial grass over the timber, which over time will wear and cause rips and encourage vandalism.
