This installation at the newly refurbished Birmingham Rotunda was completed early in 2008 for the official launch of the new apartments. The project brief was to cover the slabbed communal area around the Rotunda which was located on the second floor and almost surrounded the entire tower. The initial design of decking and slabs provided a low maintenance solution but looked rather drab and provided no areas for the owners of the apartments to sit down and relax outside.

Before the artificial turf was fitted we installed a 90° metal trim as shown above to all exposed edges this allows the edge of the artificial grass to be hidden which gives a far better finish and reduces wind exposure to the edges. The artificial grass was lifted to the second floor but due to lift size restrictions and no access for cranes during installation the maximum roll width was 2m this increased the number of join required but reduced the amount of waste due to the buildings cylindrical design.

As with all commercial installations we provide full risk, method and cosh statements and our work method complies with health and safety requirements. We are also able to work from any project cad drawings to determine the exact quantity of grass required, this is ideal for installations outside the UK ensuring the correct quantity is shipped to the project.
